Ruiz Esquiroz, Jose Antonio

He holds a PhD in Architecture from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize. He graduated with honours from the Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), Columbia University, New York, supported by a prestigious La Caixa Foundation postgraduate scholarship for studies in the United States. He earned his Architecture degree from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB).

He has been accredited by ANECA for the rank of Associate Professor since 2015. Since 2010, he has taught Architectural Design at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). He has also taught at Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid, within the Theory and Criticism Laboratory (LAB4) of the Master’s Programme in Advanced Architectural Design (MPAA) at ETSAM, at the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning (State University of New York), and as an Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s GSAPP.

He served as Director of Studies and Research at the Norman Foster Foundation and was a member of the Cultural Landscape Research Group (GIPC) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He has conducted research residencies at Avery Hall, Columbia University, and at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). He has participated in several research projects related to industrial landscapes, leading to the development of industrial registries and patents.

He has edited several academic books and published articles in journals such as LOG, Arquitectura Viva, Hipótesis, Concept, The Architectural Review, and Arca, among others.

In 2011, he founded ruizesquiroz arquitectos as a multidisciplinary design practice. Previously, he established the office zon-e. His professional work has received widespread recognition through numerous awards, exhibitions, and more than one hundred publications.
