Palacios Labrador, Luis

Luis Palacios Labrador (1983) graduated as an Architect from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 2009. He holds a Master’s Degree in Advanced Architectural Design (ETSAM, 2011) and earned his PhD cum laude from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 2017. He currently teaches as an Associate Professor of Architectural Design at ETSAM. Internationally, he has conducted architecture workshops in Manchester (United Kingdom), Sofia (Bulgaria), Ahmedabad, and Auroville (India).

As a researcher, he completed his doctoral dissertation, Towards a Method of Configuration. Van Eyck / Blom / Hertzberger. Initiators and Successors, at ETSAM in 2017, receiving the highest distinction of Summa Cum Laude. He was awarded the International Mention for his research stay at the Universität der Künste Berlin and for his publications in indexed academic journals. He is currently affiliated with the Cátedra Blanca research group as a member of the Vicens+Ramos Teaching Unit at ETSAM.

Professionally, he worked in Rotterdam and, since 2010, has developed his practice as a founding partner of Arenas Basabe Palacios. Since then, he has received around thirty awards in architecture and urban planning competitions. His built work spans a wide range of scales, including his involvement in the planning of two neighbourhoods in Vienna (10 and 8 hectares respectively), conceived as an evolution of his award-winning Europan proposals. He has also participated in the development of fourteen collective housing buildings within these neighbourhoods, which are currently under construction.

His teaching, research, and professional activities have led him to lecture and present his work at numerous institutions and international exhibitions. His projects have been published and exhibited in Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Russia, India, and South Korea.
