Moreno, Álvaro

Álvaro Moreno graduated as an Architect from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 1997 and earned his PhD in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM–ETSAM) in 2016. His doctoral dissertation, Lightness: A Proposal for Architecture, received the highest distinction of Summa Cum Laude.

Between 2012 and 2017, he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Architectural Design at ETSAM, and since 2017 he has been an Associate Professor in the same department. He has taught the Experimental Studio I, Matter and Space, since 2010, and the Experimental Studio II, Concrete, since 2019.

He has been a researcher in the Habitat Culture research group since 2008 and has coordinated the CEMEX White Chair since its creation in 2002, notably curating exhibitions and annual lecture series. He has also taught at UAX, UIC, and UNIA. He regularly participates as a speaker at international conferences and serves as both author and reviewer for specialized academic publications.

He practices professionally through the architectural office Espinosa + Moreno Arquitectos.

His work includes projects for both private clients and public administrations, often commissioned through architectural competitions. His projects have been selected for the second edition of 100% Madrid and published in Arquia/Próxima 2008, in Obra Reciente (FCOAM), Spain Architecture (Manel Padura), Arquitectura Sanitaria y Docente en Castilla-La Mancha, and in various publications by COAM, FCOAM, and EMV.

His work has been exhibited internationally as part of The Art of Construction in Spain, curated by Ricardo Santonja (2014–2015), with exhibitions in Tokyo, Rome, Moscow, Riga, Tallinn, and Algiers. It has also been exhibited at several Spanish institutions, including FCOAM in the exhibition series Obra Reciente (2004) and Abierto (2006), the COAM Pavilion at SIMA 2004, the College of Architects of Málaga (2004), the Provincial Council of Palencia (2002), and the Arquería of the Ministry of Public Works (1999).
