Palacios Rodríguez, Carlos

Carlos Palacios Rodríguez graduated as an Architect from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 2003 and obtained a Diploma of Advanced Studies from the European University of Madrid (UEM) in 2007. His professional activity is structured around teaching, research, communication, and architectural practice.

As an educator, he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Architectural Design (DPA) at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Previously, he taught at the Pontifical University of Salamanca in Madrid (UPSAM) and at the University of Alicante (UA), and has delivered courses, lectures, and workshops at various national and international institutions.

In the fields of research and communication, he is a founding member of Colectivo UHF, part of the Madrid Young Creators Archive, and has co-edited the publication UHF since 1999. He is also co-author of the book What is Home Without a Mother (HIAP – Matadero Madrid, 2015), which received recognition at the XIII Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2015). His writings have been published in numerous media and academic publications, including book chapters issued by Actar Publishers, the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, Ediciones Asimétricas, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Ashgate Publishing, Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM), and Fundación Arquia, among others.

In the field of architectural practice, he co-founded and has co-directed since 2006, together with Eva Gil and Uriel Fogué, elii [architecture office] in Madrid, developing a wide range of projects and built works both in Spain and internationally. Their work and publications have appeared in leading architectural journals, specialized media, and exhibitions, receiving numerous distinctions and awards. These include a project selected for the Spanish Pavilion at the XV Venice Architecture Biennale, which was awarded the Golden Lion (2016); two projects selected for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award (2015 and 2019); First Prize from the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM) (2017); COAM Awards (2006, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018); the Arquia Próxima Award for Interior Design and Rehabilitation (2014); the JustMad Award for Emerging Creativity (2013); two projects selected for the XII Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2013); two projects selected for the XIII Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennial (2011); and finalist recognition at the FAD Awards (2018).

In addition, the practice was selected as one of the “100 Architects of the Year 2012” in the exhibition organized by the Korean Institute of Architects (KIA) and the International Union of Architects (UIA) in Seoul. Their work has also been featured in the FreshLatino 2 exhibition (2013), organized by the Cervantes Institute, the 2013 Asian Art Curators’ Forum in Guangzhou, China, and Paysage in Progress at CIVA, Brussels (2012), where they developed experimental housing prototypes.
