Palacios Rodríguez, Carlos
Architect from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM) (2003) and has a Diploma in Advanced Studies (DEA) from the European University of Madrid (UEM) (2009). He combines his architectural practice, as a principal at elii [architecture office], with research and teaching, currently at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and previously at the University of Alicante and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), among other universities.
elii was part of the Spanish Pavilion at the 18th and 15th Venice Architecture Biennale (the latter Golden Lion, 2016) and at the 24th Milan International Triennale (2025). Among other international recognitions, two of their works were selected for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture—Mies van der Rohe Award (2015, 2019). Also recognized with the Casa de la Arquitectura Award, category – innovation (2026), FAD Awards (2026, 2020), Golden Prize Holcim Awards Europe (2023), COAM First Prize (2017), COAM Awards (2018, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2006), and the Arquia Próxima Interior Design and Renovation Award (2014), among others. Their work Yojigen Poketto was selected as one of the 20 visionary domestic spaces of the last 100 years in the exhibition Home Stories 100 Years, 20 Visionary Interiors, Vitra Design Museum (2020).
He has written various articles and book chapters, and is co-author of the books Super Petites Maisons (EPFL, 2022) and What is Home Without a Mother (HIAP – MataderoMadrid, 2015), winner of the XIII BEAU Award (2015). He was co-editor of the journal UHF and a member of this collective until 2010.
