Tuñón Álvarez, Emilio

Emilio Tuñón is a Full Professor, National Architecture Award winner, and elected member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. He has taught as a visiting professor at Princeton School of Architecture and Harvard Graduate School of Design, as well as at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and the Frankfurt Städelschule.

In 1992, he founded Mansilla + Tuñón Arquitectos with Luis M. Mansilla and, in 2012, founded Tuñón + Albornoz Arquitectos with Carlos Martínez Albornoz.

Together with Luis Moreno and Luis Rojo, in 1993, they founded the cooperative of thoughts CIRCO.

His most representative works include: the Museum of the Royal Collections in Madrid, the renovation of the Paredes Saavedra Palace-House in Cáceres, the Helga de Alvear Museum of Contemporary Art in Cáceres, the Stone House in Cáceres, the Gastropavilion in Zurich, the Relaix Chateaux Atrio Hotel in Cáceres, the MUSAC in León, the “El Águila” Documentary Centre in Madrid, the Auditorium of León, the Museum of Castellón and the Museum of Zamora.

Emilio Tuñón’s work has been recognized, among other awards, with the following: National Architecture Award, CSCAE New Bauhaus Architecture Award, Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, Mies van der Rohe Award, European Union Architecture Award, RIBA International Fellowship, Spanish Architecture Award, International Spanish Architecture Award, Eduardo Torroja Award for Architecture and Engineering, Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism Award, Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism Award, Culture Award of the Community of Madrid, Award of the Community of Extremadura, and Luis Mansilla Award from COAM.

He currently teaches in the Master’s Degree in Architecture at ETSAM, within the Tuñón-García de Paredes Studio.
