Rodríguez Ramírez, Fernando

He holds a PhD in Architecture from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He studied Architecture in ETSAM Madrid and the TU Berlin between 1995 and 2003.

He teaches as an Associate Professor at the DPA ETSAM, both in Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. He has also been lecturer and guest critic at other international institutions, such as FAU PUCP Lima, Technische Universität Berlin, IE School of Architecture or Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.

In 2015 his PhD dissertation “An infrastructural understanding of architectural design” (PhD Prize 2016). He publishes in architectural journals and has recently published the books “Dual Practices” (Asimétricas 2020) and “Un entendimiento infraestructural del proyecto” (Nobuko, 2016), among others. He has been an Europan España jury member.

In 2007 he founds FRPO Rodriguez & Oriol together with Pablo Oriol, being soon awarded with the Architectural Record Design Vanguard (New York 2012), the Europe 40 under 40 award (Chicago 2009) and the Bauwelt Preis (Berlin 2007). Standing out for its uniqueness are Estación San José in Toluca (Mexico), the Ecological Thermal Power Plants for DH Ecoenergías in Palencia and Avila, the Azucarera and Elcano housing complexes in Tudela and Madrid and the Magnifica Fabbrica del Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Italy). FRPO built projects have been awarded with the FAD Award, the Spanish Biennial and the Enor Awards. Also, a number of projects have been finalist or selected in the Mies van der Rohe Awards, the Venice Biennale, the Iberoamerican Biennial, the MCHAP, the COAM Awards and the Madrid City Council Public Works Awards.

FRPO works are widely published. In 2024 their work is featured in a monographic number of Arquitectura Viva magazine under the title “FRPO. Una estética técnica”.
