Ramos Abengozar, José Antonio

José Antonio Ramos Abengózar graduated in Architecture from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 1982 and received his PhD in Architecture from the same institution in 2002. He was Associate Professor of Architectural Design at ETSAM from 1997 to 2007 and has been Full Professor of Architectural Design since 2007. He coordinates the Ramos Teaching Unit and the Experimental Workshop II Hormigón Concreto.

He is Lead Researcher of the Cultura del Hábitat Research Group, Coordinator of the RA Educational Innovation Group, and Director of the Çimsa White Chair. He has also served as Principal Investigator of a research project for the National University of Cuyo (UNCUYO) in Mendoza, Argentina. He is the author of El Teresianum (2009) and A través del pasado dibujado (2009), both published as part of the Preposiciones-Proposiciones series, as well as Del alba al atardecer (2012) and Del abismo al infinito (2015), published by Nobuko.

His architectural work, designed and built in collaboration with Ignacio Vicens, has been widely published in national and international books and journals, including four monographs devoted to their work. It has also been exhibited nationally and internationally and selected for several architecture biennials. He has received numerous awards in architectural competitions and for the quality of his built work, including distinctions from Wallpaper, CEOE, the Architects’ Associations of Madrid, the Basque-Navarre region, Castilla-La Mancha and Málaga, Madrid City Council, Iberfad and Cemex International, as well as the Stone Award and the Fundamentos Award for Architectural Drawing, among others. He has been a visiting professor at Sapienza University of Rome, the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, and at various universities and Architects’ Associations throughout Spain.
