Pizarro Juanas, María José

María José Pizarro is architect from the Madrid School of Architecture, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSAM) since 1995 and Doctor of Architecture by ETSAM since 2013.

She has been Adjunct Professor from 2001 to 2015. Currently, she is Associate Professor (Tenure-track) since 2015 and Academic Secretary of Architectural Design Department since 2016.

Her Doctoral Thesis “In the limit of Architecture-Landscape: National Schools of Art in Havana”, has been awarded in IX Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, research section, as well as finalist in IX Concurso Nacional Arquia of Doctoral Thesis, Fundación Caja de Arquitectos (2013). It has been published by Editorial Rueda in 2017 with the title “National Schools of arts in Havana. Landscape, materiality and process”

She has published scientific essays at international magazines like Arquitectura COAM, RITA, Revista Arquitectura y Urbanismo (CUJAE), DC Papers, etc. She is member of the scientific committee of REIA Magazine, and member of the promotional and scientific committee of the EURAU (European Research in Architecture and Urbanism) since 2016.

In 1996 she founded their own professional office, Rueda Pizarro Architects SLP, in Madrid with Oscar Rueda Jiménez. Their work has been awarded in national and international competitions, among which are the following highlighted ones: X Bienal de Arquitectura Española 2009 (Finalist), Premio Nacional de Vivienda 2006 (First Prize), IV Bienal Arquitectura Iberoamericana 2004 (First Prize).
