Mestre Martínez, Nieves

Nieves Mestre is an architect and Associate Professor of Architectural Design at ETSAM, where she has taught since 2016 and currently serves as Deputy Head of Department. With more than 20 years of teaching experience, she has taught at IUAV in Venice, Syracuse University, IE University, and Universidad Europea. Her teaching excellence has been recognized with several awards and distinctions, including the ETSAM Compás de Oro, awarded in 2021 and 2022.

Her research focuses on redefining architectural design strategies through ecology, contributing to a reinterpretation of architectural practice from the perspective of contemporary ecology. Her academic output includes numerous indexed articles and several books published by international publishers such as Actar, Springer, and Jovis. She has led research projects within programmes including Horizon, LIFE, COST, and EIT Climate-KIC, focused on climate adaptation. She also collaborates as a Vice-Chair with the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) on evaluation panels, including those related to the New European Bauhaus.

Developed through COMBOlab, her professional practice has received recognition in numerous international competitions, including the New Headquarters of Aguas de Murcia, Riberas de Loiola Housing, Parco della Memoria, and Europan 8. Her work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award.
