Maruri de Mendoza, Nicolás

Architect, Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM). Master in Building Design, Columbia University, New York. PhD from ETSAM, cum laude, 2007. Prometeo fellowship at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, Germany.

He is a professor in the Department of Architectural Design at ETSAM. He has taught in the Master in Advanced Architectural Design, and served as secretary of the final degree project board and coordinator of the doctoral programme at ETSAM, as well as visiting professor at the University of Arizona and at the College of Environmental Design, Berkeley. He has supervised fourteen doctoral theses.

In 1987 he founded the office Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos with Atxu Amann Alcocer and Andrés Cánovas Alcaraz. The practice has received more than seventy national and international awards, among them three from the Region of Madrid, four from the City of Madrid, three from the Region of Murcia, First Prize at the Zaragoza Biennial and the Spanish National Award for Innovative Housing. In 2012 it received the Spanish National Award for the Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage for its work at El Molinete in Cartagena, a project that also won the Luis Moreno Mansilla Prize in 2013 and was selected for the European Union Mies van der Rohe Award. In 2020 it designed and built the Spanish Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai. In 2024 it completed the bird and mammal refuge and water reservoir in Luxembourg.
