Martín Fidalgo, Álvaro

Alvaro Martín Fidalgo is an architect and professor at the Madrid School of Architecture (UPM) since 2015, and also teaches in the Master in Collective Housing (MCH), a joint program with ETH Zurich. His academic practice is international, having taught a studio at the Architectural Association in London and as a visiting professor at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy and at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany. At ETSAM, he co-curated and published the lecture series “Argument #1: Sampling Contexts” (Asimétricas, 2019), which received COAM Diffusion Award 2020, and has co-edited the books “Exorcity. Madrid Monumental” (TC cuadernos, 2018) and “Exorcity. Monumental Porto” (TC cuadernos, 2020), among others. He completed his architectural training at ETSAM in Spain and TU Delft in the Netherlands and earned a DEA (Diploma of Advanced Studies) from the UPM.

He is a co-founder of the architecture firm ‘Ozaeta-Fidalgo’, which focuses on architectural and urban planning projects related to regeneration, intergenerational care, and sustainable spatial strategies. His professional and research interests center on architecture as a tool for material, social, and urban transformation. He co-directs the firm with Arantza Ozaeta, who is also a professor in the Department of Projects.

Alvaro Martín Fidalgo has won and built projects for national and international competitions, and his work has been recognized on numerous occasions, including the Architectural Record Design Vanguard Award (2025), the Bauwelt Prize (2013), the COAM-Luis Moreno Mansilla Award (2013), the FAD Award for Reflection and Criticism (2016) in collaboration with the publisher HipoTesis, and the Europe 40under40 (2017). His work has also been selected and exhibited at the Spanish Architecture Biennial (2013–2021), FAD International (2014), and FAD Architecture (2020). His work has been featured numerous times in magazines such as A+U, Arquitectura Viva, Architectural Record, A10, Bauwelt, Plot, Detail, and Domus.
