Jiménez de Tejada Benavides, César

César Jiménez de Tejada Benavides is an architect (1992) and holds a PhD in Architectural Design from the ETSAM–Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (2021), awarded Sobresaliente cum laude. He has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Architectural Design at ETSAM since 2000.

He furthered his education in the United States, earning a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design (AAD) from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in New York (2000), as a Fulbright Scholar.

Since 1993, he has worked professionally with María Hurtado de Mendoza, with whom he founded estudio_entresitio, an architectural practice based in Madrid and New York. His career continuously combines architectural practice, design research and university teaching.

His work has received more than 83 awards and honourable mentions, including the 2022 Spanish Architecture Award from the CSCAE, First Prize COAM 2014 and COAM 50, and First Prize in the international competition for the National Museum of Memory in Bogotá, currently under development. Built works include collective and single-family housing, healthcare facilities and public buildings, the 132-unit residential tower in Vallecas, Casa en Rojo, and, most recently, Club de Mar-Mallorca.

The work of estudio_entresitio has been featured in several editions of the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) and the Ibero-American Biennial (BIAU), as well as in numerous international exhibitions, including three editions of the Venice Architecture Biennale. In 2007, the practice was selected by Architectural Record for its Design Vanguard.
