Garrido Colmenero, Ginés

Ginés Garrido is a full professor at the UPM School of Architecture. He has been a visiting professor at UC Berkeley, Washington University in St. Louis, Harvard GSD, the University of Arizona, and PUCP in Lima. He holds a degree in Architecture (1989) and a Ph.D. (2005) from the UPM School of Architecture, where he received an outstanding achievement award and the 5th Caja de Arquitectos Foundation Competition Award (2006). He served as editor-in-chief of BAU (1999–2003) and as a member of its Editorial Board (1995–1999). He is a Fellow of the International Advisory Committee of the Schussev Architecture Museum. His publications include Landscapes in the City: Madrid Río: Geography, Infrastructure, and Public Space (2014), Melnikov in Paris 1925 (2011), Alexander Rodchenko: Letters from Paris (2008), Moisei Ginzburg: Writings 1923–1930 (2007), El Lissitzky. Wolkenbügel 1924–1925 (2005).

In 2002, he founded Burgos & Garrido Arquitectos [BGA]. Among other projects, BGA has built the Madrid Río project (2005–2023); and a complex of residential, cultural, and office buildings, as well as pedestrian bridges that have won numerous awards. He is currently working on a project involving six pedestrian bridges over the Arlanzón River in Burgos and the renovation of La Paz Hospital. Among other awards, BGA has received the New Bauhaus Europe Prize [finalist] (2026), CSCAE International Spanish Architecture Award (2017, 2024), American Architecture Award (2017); 12th Veronica Rudge Green Prize in Urban Design (2016); Hispania Nostra Award (2016); FAD Award (2009, 2012, 2026 [finalist]); 13th Spanish Biennale Architecture and Urbanism Award (2016); COAM Award (2014, 2012, 2011, 2003, 2001, 2000), Ibero-American Biennale de Architecture and Urbanism Award (2012); Green Good Design (2012); International Architecture Award (2012); Mies van der Rohe Award [Finalist] (2012).
