Virseda Aizpun, Alejandro

Graduated as an architect from ETSAM in 1997. Awarded an International Doctorate by ETSAM in 2014 with the distinction of ‘Outstanding Cum Laude’.

Tenured Lecturer at ETSAM since 2024. Visiting lecturer at numerous national universities (UFV, UE Madrid, UNAV, EINA, UPSAM, EAT, etc.) and international universities (Budapest University of Technology, Saint Lucas Brussels, Suffolk University, etc.).

Founding partner of the practice VIRSEDA&VILA ARQUITECTOS and CCJVV OFFICE ARCHITECTS.

He has designed numerous buildings, all of which have won awards in national and international competitions. Notable among these are Hall 16 at Matadero Madrid, the Polytechnic Building of the San Pablo C.E.U. Foundation (Alcorcón), the Cerro de los Gamos Business Park (Pozuelo de Alarcón), the restoration of the IES Sagasta secondary school (Logroño) and the cultural and leisure centre and student residence for 289 students (Geneva).

Other first prizes won in competitions include the Public Prosecutor’s Office building at the Madrid Campus de la Justicia, the 320-flat housing block in Navalcarnero (the VIVA international ideas competition organised by the Ministry of Housing), the National Circus Museum, and the Archaeological Museum of Orense (under construction).

This work has received numerous national and international awards, such as the 1st FAD Prize 2012, the 1st COAM Prize 2012 and an Honourable Mention at the AR+D Award 2012. It has also been exhibited at the Venice Biennales of 2001 and 2013 and featured in numerous magazines such as Arquitectura Viva, Future, Architectural Digest and Architectural Record.

His professional and teaching activities are complemented by research work, the results of which have been published in numerous articles in various specialist journals.
