Advanced Architectural Design PhD Programme

The PhD Programme in Advanced Architectural Design is intended for architects with previous research experience who have completed a research-based Master’s degree and have a research proposal that demonstrates its relevance to the Department of Architectural Design.

ADMISSIONS 2024/2025

Please note that only FULL-TIME applications are accepted; part-time admissions are not available.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE THEIR PRE-ENROLMENT IN HELIOS for the appropriate academic year and programme, namely the 2024–2025 academic year and the Advanced Architectural Design Programme (RD 99/2011). Deadlines and application procedures are available on the UPM website. Any issues related to the pre-enrolment process must be resolved directly through the platform.

In addition, applicants must submit the following documents by Friday, July 5, 2024:

2. CV + Portfolio + Motivation Letter

In the motivation letter, applicants must include the following:

– Relationship between the proposed thesis and the challenges and objectives set out in national and European research plans (PEICTI and European research programmes).
– Expected sources of funding.
– Relationship between the proposed research topic and the research groups associated with the programme.

3. Thesis Proposal + Activity Schedule

The above documentation must be sent to doctorado.proyectos.arquitectura@upm.es via wetransfer.com no later than July 5, 2024. It must be submitted as a single compressed file named in the following format: SURNAME1_SURNAME2_FirstName.

FURTHER INFORMATION

All information provided must be supported by the required official documentation. Any information not accompanied by the corresponding official certification will not be considered during the evaluation process.

All international applicants whose native language is not Spanish must demonstrate a B2 level of Spanish by submitting a DELE certificate or an equivalent qualification at B2 level or above.

Before completing the application, applicants are advised to carefully read the Admissions Brochure, the UPM Regulations for the Preparation and Evaluation of Doctoral Theses, and the Amendment to the Regulations (30 March 2017).

ABOUT ENROLMENT

The reference tuition fee is €400 per year for full-time students and €250 per year for part-time students. These public fees are subject to the official tuition fees established annually by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Regional Government of Madrid, and may therefore be subject to change.

The payment form must be requested from the ETSAM Secretariat and submitted together with the Letter of Admission to the programme.
