The 7th edition of the Doctoral and Research Support Series will begin next Wednesday, October 30. You can download the poster with the general programme information here: https://drive.upm.es/s/cJg99RKlldclv4g.

The series will run throughout the academic year and will consist of two parts:

The first block will take place during the autumn semester and is open to the entire ETSAM community. It will focus on presentations of research projects by international scholars, featuring Nikos Katsikis (TU Delft, October 30), Mat Santamouris (University of New South Wales, November 11), and Irit Katz (University of Cambridge, December 4). All lectures in this block will be delivered in English.

The second block will take place between January and April 2025 and will focus on more practical topics related to doctoral research and academic career development for our doctoral candidates and researchers. Lectures in this block will be delivered in Spanish.

The sessions will be held online via Zoom. Connection links for each lecture will be sent in advance. As in previous editions, doctoral candidates who attend at least 80% of the sessions may request a certificate of attendance at the end of the series. Attendance will be recorded automatically through Zoom.

The opening lecture will be delivered by Nikos Katsikis (TU Delft) under the title “Urbanization beyond the Operational Landscape.” Katsikis is a member of the Urban Theory Lab, a research group originally established at Harvard University, which has been developing projects on the concept of planetary urbanization for over a decade. The lecture will explore the challenges posed by spaces of extractive urbanization in global hinterlands, their impact on landscape and territory, and possible ways of overcoming this model of uneven development in dialogue with current debates on the climate crisis, circular economies, degrowth, and related topics. The lecture will take place on October 30 at 5:00 p.m. (Madrid, CET). The Zoom link is as follows: https://upm.zoom.us/s/84512764818#success
