Ábalos Vázquez, Iñaki
Bio
PhD in Architecture (1991) from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), Professor of Architectural Design at ETSAM since 2002, and Chair of the Department of Architecture at the GSD Harvard University (2013–2016).
He was awarded the RIBA International Fellowship (2009) by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
He has been a “Buell Book Fellow” and “Visiting Professor” at Columbia University (New York, 1995), “Diploma Unit Master” at the Architectural Association (London, 1998–2000), “Kenzo Tange Professor” at GSD Harvard (2009), a member of the Scientific Committee of the Study Center at the CCA in Montreal (2005–2010), and “Professor in Residence” (2012–2016) at GSD Harvard University.
He is the author of the books: Le Corbusier. Rascacielos (Madrid City Council, 1988); Técnica y Arquitectura (Nerea, 1992); Tower and Office (MIT Press, 2003); Natural-Artificial (Exit LMI, 1999) with Juan Herreros; La Buena Vida. Visita guiada a las casas de la modernidad (GG, 2000), reissued in the Classics Collection (GG, 2019) (English edition: The Good Life, GG, 2001; Portuguese edition: A Boa Vida, GG, 2002; Italian edition: Il Buon Abitare, Marinotti Edizioni, 2009; Chinese edition: The Good Life, Tongji University Press); Campos de Batalla/Battlefields (COAC, 2005); Atlas Pintoresco (Vol. I, GG, 2005 and Vol. II, GG, 2007); and Naturaleza y Artificio (GG, 2009). He is the co-editor of the "Solid Harvard GSD" series by A+T (No. 45, No. 46, and No. 47) and the monograph Alejandro de la Sota, together with Moisés Puente and Josep Llinás (Arquia, 2010). He is co-author of the trilingual edition (Spanish, English, and Chinese) of Essays on Thermodynamics. Architecture and Beauty (Actar Publishers, New York, 2015). In 2018, he published a compilation volume in the Textos Críticos collection (Department of Architectural Design, ETSAM / Ediciones Asimétricas, Madrid, 2018).
