Colmenares Vilata, Silvia

Silvia Colmenares holds a PhD in Architecture from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (outstanding cum laude, honourable mention ETSAM 2015), where she teaches since 2008. She is currently Professor and has been Deputy Director between 2016 and 2024. She is the director of the Research Group ARKRIT, devoted to architectural criticism, having contributed to research projects on collective dwelling and public space. She is a member of the PhD committee of the doctoral program PDPAA and a member of the MPAA academic committee.

She has been responsible for the general coordination and/or direction of the six editions of Critic|all: International Conference on Architectural Design and Criticism held so far, and editor of its associated publications. She directs the collection Ensayos Críticos, published by the DPA.

Notable among her publications are the chapter "La vivienda como coartada" in the volume Huellas, encuadres, paseos dedicated to Álvaro Siza and edited by MITMA (2022) and the chapter "Mas que cinco" in the book La cultura arquitectónica en los años de la Transición, edited by the University of Seville (2023), the book Lo neutro. Arquitectura por defecto in the series La Cimbra, published by Arquia Foundation (2023), and the essay De pipas y patos. Similitudes encadenadas hacia el ‘non-decorated shed’ (DPA Prints’ y Ediciones Asimétricas, 2024).
