Franco Díaz, Arturo
Architect and filmmaker. He is an Senior Professor in the Department of Architectural Design at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), where his teaching and research focus on architectural design, heritage, and the relationships between architecture, territory, and contemporary culture.
His work as an architect has focused particularly on interventions in existing structures, heritage, and processes of urban transformation. His work has been published and recognised nationally and internationally and has been featured in exhibitions and programmes devoted to contemporary Spanish architecture.
He has directed and participated in publications, exhibitions, conferences, and cultural projects related to architecture and other disciplines, with particular attention to the ways in which architectural culture is produced and transmitted.
In recent years, he has incorporated documentary filmmaking as an extension of his research into architecture, memory, and territory. He has directed and written several films, including Santa Clara, Movement in Three Phases, The Custodian of Bahía Honda, and the feature-length documentary Urban Beings, which focuses on Madrid, its peripheries, and the ways in which the city is inhabited.
His work brings together architectural practice, teaching, research, and creative practice, approaching architectural design as an open field of knowledge and dialogue with other disciplines.
