González Gallegos, José

José González Gallegos and María José Aranguren are architects graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) and professors at the same institution.

María José Aranguren López (Madrid, 1958) and José González Gallegos (Guadalajara, 1958) graduated as Architects from ETSAM in 1983. María José Aranguren ranked second in her graduating class, while José González Gallegos was awarded first place and received the Extraordinary Award for Academic Excellence.

Both obtained their PhDs from the Madrid School of Architecture in 1987, receiving the highest distinction of Summa Cum Laude.

Throughout their academic careers, they have taught and delivered courses, masterclasses, lectures, seminars, and workshops at institutions including the Yale School of Architecture (USA), the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London (United Kingdom), the Venice Biennale and the Faculty of Architecture of Venice (Italy), Escola da Cidade and the Faculty of Architecture of São Paulo (Brazil), the Central Society of Architects of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Metropolitan Center of Architecture in Mexico City (Mexico), the Faculty of Architecture of Universidade Lusíada in Lisbon (Portugal), Ricardo Palma University in Lima (Peru), the School of Architecture in Bogotá (Colombia), the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of Santiago de Chile and the Chilean Architecture Biennale, as well as at numerous universities throughout Spain.

As part of their research activity, they direct the research group Designing Dwelling (Proyectar el Habitar) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and lead the Madrid City Master’s Programme in Architecture at the CEU San Pablo Foundation.
