Martín Blas, Sergio

Sergio Martín Blas is an Associate Professor and researcher in Architectural Design at ETSAM. He holds Ph.D. degrees in architecture from the IUAV University of Venice and from the UPM. Member of the NuTAC research group and founder of the Ibero-American Network for Sustainable Social Housing (REDIVISS), since 2017 he has been involved in the coordination of the PhD Program in Advanced Architectural Design at UPM, first as academic secretary, then as coordinator (until 2025), and currently as a member of the Program's Academic Commission (CAPD). Among other activities, he has curated architectural exhibitions, participated in the organization of international conferences (Critic|all, CIVISS), and led research projects financed through competitive calls as principal investigator (PI). He has been a lecturer, researcher, and visiting professor at several European and American universities: TU Delft, TU Berlin, La Sapienza and Roma Tre, UNR Rosario, UCGS Guayaquil, PUCP Lima, and Cooper Union in New York. His research has been issued in international journals such as Lotus International, DASH (Delft Architectural Studies on Housing), and Rassegna di Architettura e Urbanistica, as well as in books published by Routledge, LetteraVentidue, Quodlibet, and Editorial CSIC, among others. He currently leads the European project DECADOCS, funded by the MSCA-DN program, at UPM. His built works received awards like the Gran de Area Prize by the Architects Association of Galicia (COAG) and have been selected several times as finalists for the FAD prizes.
