Bio
José María Sánchez García was born in Don Benito (Badajoz) in 1975. He graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 2002 and obtained his PhD in Architecture from ETSAM in 2016 with the doctoral dissertation The Bath Case.
In 2006, he established his architectural practice in Madrid, developing public projects awarded through architectural competitions.
He is currently Associate Professor of Architectural Design at the Madrid School of Architecture and has served as a Visiting Professor at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, ETH Zurich, and IUAV University of Venice.
His work has received national and international recognition through awards such as the First Prize BSI Swiss Architectural Award (Switzerland), First Prize AR+D Architecture Review Awards (London), the Architectural Record Design Vanguard Award (New York), First Prize at the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, First Prize at the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, the Enor Architecture Award, and an Honourable Mention at the 2017 Spanish Architecture Awards, among others. He has also been appointed Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
His projects have been published in numerous national and international peer-reviewed and professional journals, including El Croquis, Arquitectura Viva, Casabella, Architectural Review, a+u, Detail, Oris, Azure, On Diseño, Architektur Aktuell, Rita, 2G, and Summa.
